Summertime is a beautiful thing that perhaps no one appreciates more than Wisconsin residents. For 3 or 4 happy months, there are (likely) no worries of ceaseless snow storms and blistering cold giving us a chance to do as the Californian’s do- ENJOY the weather! While summer comes and goes in the blink of an eye and winter lasts forever, Midwesterners are forced to cram every activity that involves leaving the house into one beloved short season. So, I give you 8 fun things to do in the Milwaukee area before summer is over. Remember, winter is coming…
See an Outdoor Movie– Several parks in the MKE area provide free, outdoor showings of some of our favorite classics including E.T., Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. Grab a blanket, pack some snacks and have a movie night at any of these locations.
Attend a Festival– When Wisconsinite’s think summer, they think fest. Milwaukee summers are loaded with festivals including the world’s largest music festival, Summerfest! If music is your thing, you can catch your favorite artists performing June 24th-28th & June 30th– July 5th, 2015 at the Summerfest grounds. If culture is your thing, take your pick! You can attend Polish Fest, Festa Italiana, German Fest, Irish Fest, and more happening all summer long in downtown Milwaukee.
Head to Miller Park- Take yourself out to the ballgame this summer and catch a Brewers game! Fire up the portable grill and bring along the bean bag toss game for classic tailgate fun. To view the Brewer’s schedule to see which games you can attend click here.
Go to the Zoo- If you are an animal lover, visiting the zoo in the summertime is a must! While you’re there, check out the new expedition dinosaur exhibit open now through September 7th or attend Milwaukee’s annual Zoo a La Carte where you can “fest with the beasts” and listen to live music too.
Discover a New World– Take the family to Discovery world where they can experience fun while learning! Kids love gross stuff, so take them to the new “Grossology” exhibit happening now through September 6th where they can learn all about the oozy, slimy, unpleasant occurrences that happen in the human body. For a less grotesque experience, head to the Reiman Aquarium where you can explore the “Touch Tank” and pet a real live shark!
Visit the Market– Head down to the Historic Third Ward and take in one of America’s best public markets this summer! Experience Milwaukee’s most unique food destination where you can taste all different types of foods, attend cooking classes, or shop at the outdoor urban market.
Enjoy the Beach- While we may not have Florida’s white sand beaches or a dreamy ocean to gaze at, Wisconsin still has some pretty nice beaches to enjoy this summer. Soak up the sun at one of these 13 beautiful beach destinations or grab some friends and head to Milwaukee’s own Bradford Beach.
Dine on the Roof- Sitting outside and enjoying a meal are two things that do not normally coincide in Wisconsin for 8 months out of the year. That’s why we love any and all restaurants that offer us a chance to dine outdoors, especially when it is on a rooftop overlooking the city. Check this off your summer bucket list by visiting one of these places that offer rooftop dining.
